
How to Lose Belly Fat By Staying Gluten-Free: Fact or Fiction?
Less than a decade ago, nobody had ever heard of gluten free diets. Instead, low fat food and calorie counting was topping the diet trends. You may be wondering with all of the current buzz if skipping gluten is the secret you never knew concerning your questions on how to lose belly fat. Before you skip the gluten here are a few questions to ask yourself.
Do you know what gluten is and why you want to remove it from your diet program?
Some of us have read an article or two in leading health magazines about the dangers of gluten to your waistline. In fact, many people have testimonials (some of these you may have heard from personal friends) about how cutting out gluten helped them lose belly fat and fit back into their favorite jeans from college.
Some cite allergies to the protein (gluten is not a grain) and so they skip wheat, rye, barley and other gluten-containing food. But before you skip the gluten, you may want to know a couple of things about what exactly gluten is and if you may or may not be allergic to it.
In fact, very few people are suffering from severe allergies to gluten. Those that do (which make up less than one percent of the population) have a condition which is called Celiac Disease and is a very serious health issue and should be treated as such b y avoiding gluten altogether. However, the rest of those who may choose to avoid gluten fall under one of two categories:
- Mildly allergic//intolerant
- Trendy dieters
Those who do have a mild allergy or intolerance to gluten have seen weight loss and fat loss occur when they cut out foods that contain it simply because they are freeing up their digestive system to work without hindrance. Gluten intolerances cause bloating, gas, and digestive issues.
Once you can clear up the your intestinal tract, food is easier to digest, eliminate, and metabolize. So this is why those who have intolerances do see positive changes in their bodies and fat content. They are simply adjusting their diet to fit the needs of their particular digestive system.
Trendy dieting: Why gluten free isn’t always eating healthy for weight loss
The good news is that eating gluten-free, which would mean you cut out over processed wheat, crackers, pasta, and cereals, may help you lose weight. The bad news is that is could just as equally cause little or no difference. And in fact, many products that are packaging and promoting themselves as gluten-free have more damaging processed ingredients than a loaf of organic or freshly baked homemade bread may. The lesson to be learned is that just because something is trendy does not mean that it is the right thing for everyone.
Some people, who have struggled with their weight for longer than they care to remember, may notice a drop in weight, since they are cutting out a large portion of their calories and they are also cutting out some unnecessary processed foods. But instead of focusing on cutting out gluten as your main transportation to a better looking and feeling you, why not focus on eating healthy, balanced meals that are full of fruits, vegetables, and organic or grass fed meats?
Remember, there is no secret to fat loss; there is only a commitment to eating clean, healthy and natural foods. So gluten-free or not, stick to eating foods that have 2-3, or 4 ingredients on the label at the most. That simple trick alone with kick your weight loss struggles to the curb!
